MEDELLIN HISTORY OF MEDELLIN It was founded in 1675. At first, Medellín was not considered a city but a town, which is why Santa Fe was given precedence. But this did not prevent its neighborhoods and its commercial and mining activity from growing. It regulated the circulation of currency, the Sunday market, and street layout. which managed to consolidate itself as the main city of the Antioquia province until 1826. By the 20th century, Medellín began a great process of industrialization, especially in the textile area. In 1904, the Bello Yarn and Textile Factory was created and, three years later, in 1907, the Coltejer Colombian Textile Company was founded, a company that would become an emblem for the city to this day.
